In 2016 Catch Reports
TEAM MEMBERS: Kev, Sara, Mark, Emmy
WEEK COMMENCING: 21/05/2016
WEATHER: Mostly good, couple of rainy days with a storm first night. Fairly humid, some stunning sunny days where you could see the fish laying just under the surface – mostly towards the bay.
FISH: Commons, mirrors, sturgeon, cat. Carp came in from most places in the lake, although they tended to favour the furthest most bay and under the trees to the left (when standing in "dad’s" swim). Sturgeon was usually picked up right-hand side and towards the bay. Catfish right in centre, Koi – which no one caught – tend to patrol the right-hand side to the bay and back but love hiding under the pile of logs to the right.
WILDLIFE: Buzzard trying to make off with an adder, woodpecker, water vole, kingfishers, heron, red squirrel, deer, feral cat (these will take the food from the bucket outside the cabin), coypu, huge hornets (don’t let them near you!) grass snake….amazing.
NUMBER OF FISH:
WEIGHTS OF FISH:
MIRRORS: 32lb, 31lb 12oz, 31lb, 26lb, 24lb 8oz, 24lb, 22lb, 21lb 4oz, 21lb 2oz, 8 Doubles, 3x Singles
COMMONS: 26lb, 16lb
CATFISH: 35lb, 25lb 12oz
STURGEON: 3x 36lb 4oz
TOTAL LBs: 602lb 3oz
Emmy fished the little lake with mostly bread on top & some dog biscuit. Assorted common, mirror, and silver fish approx 20lb
BIGGEST FISH: 36lb 4oz Mirror
CAUGHT BY: Kev & Mark
BAIT: Complete mix! Pop-ups were getting knocks but little interest, nugget, boilies and pellet all worked at various times. Nothing worked on top at all. Little lake complete opposite – ledgering did nothing but bread, dog biscuit and a little bit of sweetcorn had them in a feeding frenzy.
SUMMARY: Amazing location. As first-timers to French fishing it took a few days to adjust. Fished both nights and days but found a lot of the catches were late evening, night and early morning – days were for sleeping. Best advice given was to not try. Just treat as a holiday and if you catch, you catch. Enjoy the experience.
Gary is a brilliant host, kept us laughing and cooks fabulous food. His company on the night out was brilliant (just watch out for his driving!!!)
Thanks for a fab holiday!
