Week Commencing: 10 July 2026 @ The Cabin Lake
Our sixth visit to the cabin and eighth overall at Lodge lakes was another memorable one, although on this occasion the week was very much a holiday with some fishing, rather than a dedicated fishing holiday as Joe was only able to make two days.
Fishing was kept light through the week. We fished three rods on Sunday and Monday, then scaled back to a single rod on Tuesday and Wednesday. Despite limited fishing we managed of seven carp with the biggest at 23lb, 31 lb 8oz and 34 lb.
This week was packed with firsts. It was the first time Joe’s fiancée Becca had ever been carp fishing and she enjoyed life on the bank drinking wine, eating BBQ and playing cards.
It was also the first time Colin had fished without his son Joe at his side to guide him and he landed a carp of his own.
Another change from previous visits was fishing from the far bank in the new (to us) swims, which gave us a different perspective on the lake.
We also experienced our first thunderstorms at the cabin, which added some unwanted drama to an otherwise relaxing week. The weather was hot on all days we fished.
Perhaps the most unusual first of all was sharing our fishing sessions with nine mallard ducks, who quickly became regular companions and seemed determined to be involved in everything we did (I promise Sarah didn’t feed them Gary!)
While our catch number won’t trouble the record books (Joe’s done that already at the cabin – see catch report from April 2022), the week summed up why we keep returning to the cabin and Lodge lakes. Great surroundings, good company, lovely pristine carp and plenty of memorable moments made for another fantastic stay.
